The busy week in week 6

On Tuesday the whole school went to Puketeraki Marae at Karatane. At the marae we played learnt rakau, and Hope Naquoia and Turi shared their Mihi, 3 children from each class did this. We also made flax flowers, putiputi. We sang songs to them at the Marae. Mrs Jewiss called us on to the Marae in response to the Tangata Whenua.
During reading time we have some groups doing plays. Year 6 buddy reading has started. We have a new reading wheel with some new stations and we now do 3 stations instead of 2 a day. Our whole class has been here for 4 days, Miss Sutherland loves it when we are all here. Lots of people in our class have got BINGO this week.

Week 5 with the R3LT

In room 3 we have had two monarch butterflies Greedy and Tigger. We got to hold Tigger
but we didn't get to hold greedy because he hatched over night during the weekend.
It`s walk n`wheels week and we're going to have do obstacle courses to do with walk`n wheels. On Wednesday for walk 'n' wheels day we dressed up in blue and gold.
Today was also the room3 assembly and most of the things we shared were about our monarch caterpillars.
On Tuesday next week we are going to a marae so all of us got to write our mihi. We have been practicing them.
Thank you for reading the room3 blog!

R3LTL, blogging week 4 term 1

In art we have been doing our self portraits. We used material and paint to create them. We are still finishing them but they are looking nice.

We finished off our treaty work by colouring in our own copy of the class treaty and sticking it into our topic books. We did a brainstorm to remember our learning.

On Monday we had two visitors from the university who were helping us in our classroom. Two went into Room 1 had and two to Room 5 too. They helped us with our Art work.

Week 3 with the Room 3 Learning Team

This week we are sad because Miss Scott left, but before she did she made us a farewell card and gave it to us.
We had a photo of half our face and we had to draw the other half of our face. They are up on the wall.
We are very excited to be going to Beach Education Day on Friday 20/2/09. It`s all day at St Clair Beach life-saving Club. We are doing it because it is important to be safe in and around the water. We have finished our make-and-do monarch butterflies they are up on the wall in Room 2.
We went to the library on Monday for the first time and got out some library books. We got two each but some people got none because they didn`t bring back the ones from last year. We will be changing books every week on a Monday.

R3LT bloggings of week 2

Our two monarch caterpillars are now in a Chrysalis. Greedy crawled up toward the ceiling and is behind the heat pump but Tigger stayed on the swan plant. We made holiday pictures and we finished them. Mr Harris read us two stories and we played t-ball on Tuesday afternoon. Jack came to join the R3LT on the 12/2/09. Miss Scott is not sick anymore and back with us. We started subjects like reading, maths groups and author time this week. It was Adie's birthday this week and we hope she had a great birthday. We wish Ms Taylor a great birthday on Saturday. This week we finished our name tags and put them onto our desks, browsing boxes and trays.

Welcome Back to School

This week is the first week back to school for 2009. We have been at school for four days this week. Our major focus has been getting to know each other and working toward discovering what kind of class environment we want and how we can achieve it for our Learning Team this year.

We have created some fantastic pastel holiday pictures this week to show an exciting moment of our holiday. Next we told our story, firstly we wrote a draft plan that Miss S typed up. Then we started a podcast of our stories to share them with others.

In our class we found that Miss S had brought along 6 tadpoles and 2 monarch caterpillars. We are looking forward to them changing. We called our caterpillars Greedy and Tigger. Today Greedy went walk about and we think we might find a chrysalis some where in our room on Monday morning.

This year we are lucky to have Miss Scott working with The Room 3 Learning Team. Miss Scott is a student teacher, she will work with our class at different times throughout the year as part of her final year in the Bachelor of Teaching (primary) degree through the University of Otago. Miss Scott's first practicum is for 3 and a half weeks.

This week we have been finding out why the 6th of Februry is such an important day in New Zealand and answering our wonderings about Waitangi Day. Mrs Jewiss set us a goal to tell the people around us about why they are on hoilday this Friday 6th of February.

We have enjoyed our first week back to school!

Busy! Busy! Busy!

In Room 3 this week we have been doing a dance. We have made up some actions for it and it looks cool. We have been doing lots of stuff for the sharing of In the Beginning. We have been printmaking room5 images of the land. We are hoping lots of people are coming to the production.
